Okay, this isn't exactly one of those warm and fuzzy stories that we enjoy so much around this time of year. In fact, it's the complete opposite. It's creepy, chilling, and just downright heartbreaking. Last night, actor Michael Brea, who had appearances on the hit TV show Ugly Betty, brutally murdered his own mother.
And it's not even the fact that he murdered his own mom that's the most disturbing. It was how he explained it afterwards, saying that it was an act of God and that he wasn't killing her, he was killing the demons inside of her.
Without a sound of remorse, Michael calmly explained to the the New York Daily News exactly what was going through his mind and his reasoning for murdering her.
"I was sleeping in my bedroom. God came above my bed and reached his arm to me. I said, 'God, is my time on earth over?' I heard a voice say, 'Yes Michael, today is your last day.' I asked if I could say goodbye to my family."
He kept the dream to himself, and the next afternoon, while attending a Masonic Temple, he said that a man tried to curse him. "[He] kept trying to put something in my hand but wouldn't show it to me. I kept opening my hand. It was a Freemason pin. I wouldn't touch it."
On the train ride home, he said that he was hearing voices, comparable to Neo in The Matrix, all asking him about the differences between a mom and a mother, which he took as a sign. Once he arrived home, he hugged his mother, then went into a room and set up a freaky ceremonial-like site, lighting candles and surrounding himself with saint cards. When his mother requested his help with food preparation, he took the dead chickens she was cooking on the stove as another sign, saying that it was black magic, and retreated back into his room. When his mom requested his help again, he said that she had the voice of a demon instead of her own, and that's when he lurched into action, chasing her around the house with a samurai sword.
"I was slashing my mom and I heard the police knocking on the door yelling, 'Michael, open up, Michael, open up,' but I knew they wouldn't open the door and stop me because the spirits were protecting me."
This sounds like a scene straight out of a horror film, and gives me chills just reading it. This guy doesn't need to be locked up in jail, he needs to go to a mental institution. Clearly, he's mentally ill and needs to receive treatment.
What do you think? Think something is mentally wrong with this guy or do you think he just made up this crazy story to get away with murder? What do you think he should receive as punishment?
