After generating a lot of buzz during last summer's Comic-Con, the awesomely named Cowboys & Aliens trailer has finally dropped. I had high hopes for this movie when I first heard about it, and I have to say, the preview does not disappoint.
The film, which is based on a graphic novel by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, is a Western/alien-invasion mashup of sorts, set in 1800s Arizona. Local cowboys, headed by gunslinger Zeke Jackson (played by an extra craggy-looking Daniel Craig), and the indigenous Apache tribe have been feuding, but band together to kick some alien ass when a posse of pissed-off UFOs show up.
Hence: cowboys and aliens. It works on so many levels!
Okay, FINE, so maybe it sounds a little hokey, but you have to admit they've got a star-studded ensemble on board. Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Keith Carradine (Deadwood's Wild Bill in the western HIZZY!), and the aforementioned Daniel Craig are all in this. Plus, you know they had the budget and creative firepower: Iron Man's Jon Favreau is the director; the script is written by Star Trek's Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, with help from Lost's Damon Lindelof; and it's produced, in part, by Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg.
As someone who loves both Westerns AND aliens, I'm super excited to check this out. The bad news is, I have to wait until July 29 to do so. *sad trumpet*
