The fact that Bristol Palin made it to the finals of Dancing With the Stars has ticked a lot of people off. Fellow contestants, fans ... many feel that she should have been given the heave-ho a long time ago. But none more than Steven Cowan, a 67-year-old Wisconsin man who took matters in his own hands when the young mother was not ousted from the competition this week.
So what did Cowan do?
He ran out of the room where he was watching the competition with his wife, returned with a shotgun, aimed it at the television set, and pulled the trigger. His reason? Bristol Palin is a terrible dancer.
Gee ... is Palin really that bad?
For her part, Mrs. Cowan was understandably terrified when her husband subsequently turned his wrath -- and the gun -- on her. The missus fled from their home and immediately called the cops. It took all night, but a SWAT team was eventually able to coax the passionate dancing fan out of the house with no further incident.
Cowan was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and accrued $25,000 in fines.
I'm here to say that I in no way advocate violence against televisions or poor dancers. And while I do understand Cowan's frustration at less-than-talented or even just plain annoying people hitting the top, we need to stop the violence.
Bristol Palin should be able to boogie down with her bad self any time she likes. Tom Cruise has every right to jump on couches and make my skin crawl. Gwyneth Paltrow is allowed to preach ... I will just not listen. And Willow Smith? Just turn down the volume.
What about you? Do you think Bristol is that bad of a dancer?
