I think if I were a celebrity, I would make it a personal policy never to say anything about other celebrities ever. Because there's no way to do it without sounding like you're kissing major ass, or in the case of Victoria Beckham talking about Lady Gaga, roiling with sour grapes.
Victoria, AKA Posh Spice, somehow got herself on the subject of Lady Gaga in a recent interview with Women's Wear Daily. First she fake-fawned over Gaga's style:
I have a lot of respect that she can walk in those shoes going through airports. I mean, goodness, people think I dress up to go to an airport!
That little remark reminds me of the line in Bridget Jones' Diary about toxic jellyfish friends: "Talking to her is like swimming in a sea and being stung repeatedly by an enormous jellyfish."
Posh went on to drop the nice act altogether, saying,
If I'm being completely honest, is it fair to say she may have become a little bit of a parody of herself? Is that fair to say?
A parody of what, I wonder? The elaborate, purposefully designed stage character that is Lady Gaga? How can that even be?
The funny thing is that Victoria Beckham, of all people, seems like a comical spoof of her own self. The oversized glasses, the stick-thin figure, the dour expression, the teetering heels, the ever-present Birkin bag ... if Gaga is a parody of Gaga, then surely Posh can be filed under the same category. Hell, at least Lady Gaga's fashion choices are unpredictable.
Posh can now be added to a growing list of female celebs who love to rag on Lady Gaga. Check out what these fellow stars have said:
"Again, there's Lady Gaga — people say we're similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same!" — M.I.A.
"Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke." — Katy Perry
"This person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago. I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure." — Christina Aguilera
What's with the Gaga haterade, Hollywood?
