CMA Awards: The Women Wowed!

Julie Ryan Evans

Brad Paisley and Carrie UnderwoodIt was ladies' night for sure at the Country Music Awards 2010 tonight.

The stage was a swarm of blondes (with eerily similar hairstyles -- long and layered) belting out impressive tunes and wowing us with their wit. Oh, the talented men were there too (George Strait sang!), but the ladies really provided the most memorable moments of the night.

Carrie Underwood did a great job hosting with Brad Paisley and showed some nice comedic skills (the Lady Antebellum vs. Lady Gaga skit was great!). But it was her performance of "Mama's Song" that brought down the house ... or at least brought out the tears. It was lovely.

LeAnn Rimes presented an award to Lady Antebellum and managed to escape without any boos.

Taylor Swift gave a nice performance of her song "Back to December" but the most remarkable thing about it was her apparent confusion at the end when she mouthed "what?" to someone or something.

Um, what? You can check it out here:

The highlight of the evening came from Sheryl Crow and Miranda Lambert who sang a duet of Loretta Lynn's "Coal Miner's Daughter." It was amazing, and then ... Loretta, the legend herself, came out.

Loretta's gown was gaudy as all get-out, but she sounded great, and it was a moving performance from such an icon in the industry.

Miranda Lambert was the big winner as she took home awards for album of the year, video of the year, and Female Vocalist of the Year.

"I just told Blake I think we need to go to church," she said before acknowledging the ground Loretta Lynn paved for women in country music and giving an emotional thank-you to the crowd.

Then there was Gwyneth Paltrow who absolutely held her own.

She looked a bit nervous (and couldn't seem to stop blinking when her eyes were open?), but really sounded quite good and has a nice pure voice.

Good job, Gwyneth!

In the end, though, a man stole the show when Brad Paisley took home Entertainer of the Year.

Did you watch the CMAs? What were your favorite moments?
