Julien Hug, a contestant on Season 5 of The Bachelorette, was found dead off a highway in the Southern California desert. He had gone missing on Monday while driving to his family's restaurant in Palm Desert, California; his body was found on Wednesday. The cause of death is unknown.
Hug had competed for the affection of Jillian Harris. Even though he only appeared on the show for two episodes, Harris says that she remembered him for his "gentle demeanor and kind heart." She tweeted earlier today:
Please say a prayer for the loss of a friend this morning. Life is fragile, don't forget to love the ones you love.
Sadly, Hug isn't the only reality star whose life ended in tragedy ...
-Corey Haim, the star of A&E's The Two Coreys, collapsed at his mother's apartment earlier this year and died of an alleged accidental drug overdose.
-Infamous-turned-beloved Big Brother star Jane Goody died of cervical cancer in 2009.
-Frankie Abernathy had cystic fibrosis when she starred on Real World: San Diego; she later died of the disease in 2007.
-AIDS activist Pedro Zamora died just as Real World: San Francisco was ending.
-Jennifer Lyon, who starred on Survivor: Palau, passed away from terminal cancer earlier this year.
-Kandice Hutchinson was killed in a car accident immediately following the taping of MTV's A Double Shot at Love; her scenes were edited out of respect for the family.
-Anna Nicole Smith (The Anna Nicole Smith Show) died of an (alleged) accidental drug overdose in 2007.
And, these reality stars tried to take their own lives.
To echo Harris, life is fragile indeed. Our thoughts are with Hug's family.
