When a rapper calls Kanye West a genius and collaborates with Eminem, I suppose it's time to really take a look at the girl behind the buzz.
Nicki Minaj's music is full of foul language, but those dirty words come from a very pretty potty mouth that uses the L-word, the C-word, and raps about threesomes.
Maybe she's on her way to being the second best thing?
Let me explain ...
Twenty-five-year-old Minaj is Lil Wayne's protege and a few months ago Kayne said she had the potential to be the biggest rapper of all time -- and no, not behind Kanye himself (wow, humble moment), but behind Slim Shady. Minaj collaborated with Eminem on a track called "Roman's Revenge" featured on her album Pink Friday. I'm tickled.
Capitalizing on her impending second best ranking, Kanye has Minaj rapping on two tracks from his upcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. (For this alone, he is a genius.)
Nicki is popping up everywhere lately -- she just graced the cover of Out, and has people guessing about her sexuality -- her lyrics are arguably bi-curious daring to use the word lesbian which seems to be taboo for all female rappers according to Out, and she told the mag:
“I started making it my business to say things that would empower women, like, ‘Where my bad bitches at?’ to let them know, ‘I’m here for you.’ Then, when I started going to the shows and it was nothing but girls, it was like, Did I go too far with embracing my girls? Because now they want to kiss and hug me."
Out wonders if she has what it takes to make rap music a little more gay-friendly. Because, you know, Eminem's collaboration with Elton John doesn't really count. That was more of an "I'm sorry" gesture.
Even if Minaj isn't bi-curious, she has our attention ... maybe she can use it for good. Even if it has to be peppered with the C-word. After all, nothing rhymes well with vagina.
What do you think of Nicki Minaj's music? Does she have the potential to change rap music and be second best to Eminem?
