Michelle Williams, the Brokeback Mountain star, is all set to play the screen goddess in a film that will hit theaters in 2011. My Week With Marilyn will be an account of the making of 1957's The Prince and the Showgirl, which starred Marilyn and the legendary Laurence Olivier (portrayed in this film by Kenneth Branagh).
You know what? I don't get it. I just don't see her as a viable Marilyn.
Monroe was a sex pot. In my eyes, Williams isn't seductive in the least ... a waif. Although clearly vulnerable, I imagine Monroe as a dynamic presence that physically filled up any room she entered.
I just can't see Williams even filling up a closet.
The former Dawson's Creek star lacks the required va-va-voom to portray the late movie siren. Granted it will be a tough order for anyone to fill Monroe's pumps, but Williams clearly ain't the way to go.
My pick? Scarlett Johansson. Rumor has it that she was in the running for the part early on. Kate Hudson and Amy Adams were also reportedly on the short list. Kate Hudson? Puh-leeze. The star of that comedy classic Bride Wars? Not so much.
Naomi Watts is also set to depict Monroe in a film adaptation of Blonde, Joyce Carol Oates' novel imagining what Monroe's inner life was like. Now that's better. Less waif ... more woman.
What do you think? Do you think Michelle Williams can pull it off?
