Amy Winehouse: Fashion Designer? (Really?)

Hey, remember Amy Winehouse? The troubled singer with the incredible voice and the yeeeeesh personal life, who was once hospitalized for an overdose of heroin, ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine and alcohol? Who was arrested for assault more than once?

Who, more often than not, looked like this?

Well, apparently she's been drug-free for three years now, which is great news. She looks lovely in recent photos, with a no-longer-cadaverous face and familiar dramatic eye makeup that's actually, like, on her eyes.

She tells the U.K. edition of Glamour,

“I’m much healthier now. I used to use drugs and I haven’t used drugs in almost three years. I literally woke up one day and was like, ‘I don’t want to do this any more.’”

She's back in the news not for an upcoming album, but because of her new fashion line designed for British sportswear firm Fred Perry.

That's right, the star who was once deemed the world's worst dressed celebrity (and let's be honest, most of the time we were too horrified by her overall appearance to really notice what she was wearing) has launched a fashion line.

Winehouse says she was inspired to focus on her clothing designs while dealing with the turmoil caused by her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil. The designs are based on her own vintage clothing tastes, and start at a UK size six because she wanted to be able to wear them. She explains that she lost weight when she started eating right, saying,

“Everyone thinks it was because of my lifestyle. It was because my eating habits got a lot better and I came to my natural weight. I’m not really skinny but I’m tiny and I couldn’t really get anything because they didn’t do a size six.”

I'm not sure what time period she's referring to when she talks about losing weight, because when she seemed at her most unhealthy she looked dangerously thin. Hopefully she's filled out a bit since then.

At any rate, good for her for getting clean and doing something she enjoys. However, I've got to say, I think I'd be way more interested in hearing new Amy Winehouse music than seeing Amy Winehouse's new fashion line.

What do you think? Would you wear a Winehouse-designed outfit?
