Mel Gibson Divorce Takes a Weird Turn

5

mel gibson divorceAs Oksana heads to Oprah's couch, Mel Gibson's got another lady to worry about: his ex-wife Robyn.

Gibson's lawyers are sorting out a settlement agreement today, and while Robyn has defended Mel in the past, it looks like his bad behavior is going to have a negative impact on the divorce property settlement.

Does this mean Robyn is finally admitting her ex-husband isn't as harmless as she once said?

Whether it's Robyn or her lawyer, there is a weird issue that has popped up called "good will," of which Mel Gibson no longer possesses. A person's future income rests on how much good will they have -- which equals job security. As Mel blew that good will out of the water with his racist, sexist, and violent rants, his lawyer claims he cannot afford the spousal support that he could have prior to his bad behavior.

Wisely, Robyn's lawyer says Robyn should not have to pay for Mel Gibson's bad behavior and loss of good will.

TMZ reports a settlement should come later today, with all parties agreeing.

Fascinating, the currency of Hollywood.

Do you think Robyn should receive less support since Mel will probably never work again?

No, I think to have spent that long with him, to have supported him all of those years, and to have had 7 children with him says it all. She was obviously the one that kept everything together and kept him from destroying his image (for the most part anyway...i think he actually started going down hill near the end of their time together). Since he hasn't been with her he has seriously gone down hill. I say that him turning into a crazy lunatic shouldnt influence how much support she gets. She and the children shouldn't be punished for him being a complete moron.

Personally, i would rather hear what his ex-wife has to say on Oprah...

I think that it depends on what is the truth. And what are the implications for his ability to pay. He is certainly under the burden of proof in getting any reduction. Both parties have to recognize that if he has destroyed his earnings power to the point where he no longer can pay her and still have any money left, that he can't then give her money he does not have. And that it is best to not get to that point. So if its at that point, and I doubt it, then she might have to listen. If not, then he is being frivolous in his request. He is destroying himself, she is not to blame. He needs help, lots of help for substance abuse and perhaps psychological issues too. He should look to focus on rehab and sustaining his payments. Picking a fight with his ex over payments in court is consistent with a self destruction course. I think of Brave Heart when I see him and what he is actually doing in his life is tarnishing the image... Buck up Mel, we would all like to see you get it back together....

She shouldn't receive anything. It's outrageous that in the 21st century we're still using alimony to support perfectly healthy ex-spouses, most often ex-wives. I can see a 6 months or a 12 months transition period but anything more than that is just insane.

I'm a woman and find this practice disgusting; almost as if the men we used to be married to are now paying us women a "previous-user" fee after a divorce...

What the heck ladies, get a job, better yet, save up money while married, have a separate savings account just in case, both of you should. Marriage is wonderful if it works out but rich men who marry those bimbos are so incredibly stupid. Seriously. You honestly think Oksana would've been with Mel Gibson if it wasn't for his money?? Now she's got what she wanted to begin with. He's stupid for sure but she's greedy and manipulative, and now she's using the "me, poor woman" card, I bet you within a year or so she'll write a "Tell-All" book and cash in even more money.

Mel's ex-wife seemed to be a nice lady but the divorce made her greedy, she's now raising the "rent" she charged for the years her ex-husband could use her body. If that's not why she's getting paid this incredible amount of money then I'm not sure what it is.

We can do so much better than that, we can have normal lives without having to sell ourselves like that. Alimony - a "previous-user-fee" - a disgusting practice.

Who really gives a damn? People, get a life. There have to be more important things for you to be concerned with, than what some well off people do with their lives...
Stupidity is ubiquitous and money multiplies its effect. 'Nough said.
