Those of us who watched the explosive Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion special thought it would be the last time Caroline Manzo would ever have to deal with Danielle Staub -- especially after it was announced that Staub would not be returning for a third season.
Yet, it appears that Manzo -- far from being done with her former rabble-rousing co-star -- has actually been dragged into a legal battle with Staub and her ex-husband, Kevin Maher.
Caroline, we feel your pain: You can't free yourself of the crazy lunatic that is Danielle Staub -- and neither, apparently, can we.
Here's what's going down in the ongoing court battle:
You may remember that Maher authored the infamous book, Cop Without a Badge, which revealed that Staub had been a prostitute, drug addict, and kidnapper and was the catalyst for most of the drama on RHONJ. In September 2009, Maher filed a $5 million lawsuit against Staub claiming she defamed him with lies including saying that he had beat and raped her and killed her dog.
Staub for her part denies that she ever said such things and filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that there was no way he could legally prove that she lied.
Maher's legal team deposed her in July to help prove his allegations by relaying under oath what Staub had said about her ex. In the deposition documents, Manzo testifies:
"She depicted him as a monster ... She depicted him as someone who would beat her daily, as someone that put her in the hospital due to the beatings, I want to say on more than one occasion.
"She claimed to have been hiding in a tree at some point, afraid that when he came home he would find her and beat her. She claimed to be the victim of prostitution due to his demands, that he put her into that world, again depicting him as an absolute monster. And the only reason she stayed with him, because she feared for her life if she left."
The rest of Manzo's testimony tells a similar (albeit more graphic) story -- that he abused her and that anything she did during the course of her relationship with Maher was not of her own freewill.
As mentioned, Staub has filed to dismiss the case but with such damning evidence, who knows if the legal battle will continue? I'm sure a drawn out legal battle with Staub is just want Manzo wants ...
She's not the only one who can't seem to get rid of Danielle. Even though she's officially off RHONJ, she's reportedly got not one but two shows in the works: A reality show drama based on her family and a hosting gig along the lines of Jerry Springer.
Apparently, Danielle Staub just won't go away.
Are you a Staub fan? What do you think of all her legal problems?
