Kate Gosselin Ruins Emmy Opening Number

Just when you think -- and hope -- that Kate Gosselin is gone for good (or at least on summer hiatus), she resurfaces all over again in the unlikeliest of places.

Take, for instance, last night's opening number at the Emmy Awards. There I was bopping along happily to the Glee sketch, which showcased a host of my very favorite TV stars -- Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Hamm, Jorge Garcia, Joel McHale, and the Glee kids -- when what to my wondering eyes should appear but this:

kate gosselin

I consider it a travesty of justice that I should have to experience that hideous wig not once but twice now! (Although, if I'm being honest, her makeup looks pretty good.)

I suppose we should appreciate the fact that Kate has enough of a sense of humor to skewer herself and her infamous reputation as being the worst contestant ever on Dancing With the Stars. (In the Emmy sketch, she touts her dancing skills as a reason for her to join the Glee club with Fallon, Fey, and cast, but they reject her.)

But I'm too stuck on the fact that the Emmys is supposed to be about awarding excellence on television; and, whether you love her or hate her, everyone should agree that Kate's, ahem, performances on TV are the opposite of excellent.

Maybe when she joins the cast of Mad Men, it will be a different story, but for now, to put it bluntly: She doesn't belong at the awards!

Moreover, I lost mad respect for a woman who would agree to be in the presence of such talent like Fey, Fallon, and the rest -- if only to be the butt of their jokes.

Kate seems willing to take the groveling in stride if it means she can be in the spotlight for one second longer. But in the meantime, her bit in the Glee sketch was, for me, a profound low point in an otherwise fantastic, feel-good opening number:

What did you think of Kate Gosselin's appearance on the Emmys?
