I tried to do Foursquare. I tried to be one of those people who instantly took to their phones the moment they walked in the door in a quest to become "mayor" of that location (I'm looking at you, Amy K.!).
But I couldn't do it. One, the lack of friends I had on there caused me to feel like I was the unpopular kid in high school again. Two, it was kinda creepy.
I'm apparently in the minority though, because Foursquare has become insanely popular and Facebook is jumping on the location-feature bandwagon by unveiling its new "Facebook Places."
Hear that? It's another death of a social networking site thanks to Facebook. Who wants to make bets on how soon Foursquare will be joining MySpace in website heaven? And check out the Facebook Places logo ... it looks like a four, in a square. That's awfully passive-aggressive of you, FB.
Facebook Places will allow users to "check in" to a location and post it on to their profiles, as well as tag people they're with, allowing us to know the answer to the one question that we couldn't yet receive on Facebook: Where?
Of course, as with all Facebook security concerns, you control the privacy settings for this, with the default being "Friends Only."
I just updated my Facebook app to try out the new feature, but apparently it isn't yet available in my region (even though I'm in NYC ... really Facebook?). Once it's available, I'll give it a shot. But I bet I won't like it.
What do you think of the new feature? Have you tried it out yet?

Nope, haven't tried it out. It takes a whole bunch of time and effort to keep up with CafeMom and Facebook...I don't NEED another social networking site to take up more time!
I just saw this on my FB app on my iPhone yesterday and was wondering what it was. Thanks for letting me know what it is.
No.....I think it can be dangerous....and make people easy targets for thieves...stalkers! No thanks!
