Eat, Pray, LoveI haven't seen Eat Pray Love the movie yet, and I wasn't a huge fan of the book for many of the same reasons Kim voiced in her review of the movie (which sounds better than the book) -- namely, I didn't find it relatable.

But what I did like about it were some of the quotes Elizabeth Gilbert wove throughout the text like a tapestry of inspiration flecked with wisdom.

Here are a few of my favorites:

“As smoking is to the lungs, so is resentment to the soul; even one puff is bad for you.”

“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.”

"I met an old lady once, almost a hundred years old, and she told me, 'There are only two questions that human beings have ever fought over, all through history. How much do you love me? And Who's in charge?'"
