I can just picture the aging Beach Boys climbing out of their cabanas, shaking their fists in the air, "Damn you Katy Perry, you young whippersnapper! You stole our line!"
Okay, so it probably didn't happen quite that way, but they are suing the "California Gurls" singer for using their iconic lyric, "I wish they all could be California Girls."
Snoop Dogg mumbles the line at the very end of Perry's catchy song, and Mike Love and Bryan Wilson from the Beach Boys are outraged.
A record industry source told Page Six, "Rondor Music has sent a letter to Capitol on behalf of Mike Love and Brian Wilson, saying Katy has cribbed one of the most famous lyrics in history, so Love and Wilson should be entitled to a writing credit and a portion of the royalties."
Is it just me or does that seem a little extreme for one simple line?
