Daniel Craig will be taking time off from secret agent'ing as James Bond to play another investigator, reporter Mikael Blomkvist, in the American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Having seen the Swedish version with actor Michael Nyqvist, I was really concerned they would try to pretty up Blomkvist in Sony's U.S. film. Craig is certainly easy on the eyes, but in a been-around-the-block kind of way that makes him believable as an overly aggressive investigative journalist who finds himself in the middle of a decades-old mystery with an incredible twist.
Now, who in the world will be able to top Swedish actress, Noomi Rapace, as Lisbeth Salander?
I'm thinking no one, since Rapace was a perfect physical manifestation of the fictional character of cyber-punk, anti-social genius, and kick-ass Salander. Although rumors are everyone from Kristen Stewart to Natalie Portman are campaigning for the role of the heroine.
Personally, I hope an unknown who is as unique as Lisbeth Salander is tapped for the role of a lifetime.
While we anxiously await the other lead announcement, satisfy your GWDT cravings by checking out the Swedish film on DVD, or heading to your local artsy theater to see the Swedish sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire.
Do you love or hate Daniel Craig in this role? And who should play Lisbeth Salander?
