Sadly, and for the third week in a row, a top contestant has been forced to sit out due to an injury. Let's hope this ends the theory of Threes. Will injured Billy Bell continue? We'll know tonight. But last night's SYTYCD put the focus on Lauren Froderman, an 18-year-old recent high school graduate who had a bit of a shaky start in the competition. Early on, her performances were decent, but her main issue was that she came across as too immature and innocent.
Psshht. Not anymore!
All I can say is that my girl can dance. She tore it up tonight with Twitch in her Hip-Hop routine choreographed by Nappytabs. Those two married hip-hop masters are insane. I can't get enough of them.
Simply put -- Lauren killed that sh*t. She decimated it. She reduced that puny dance to rubble (and yes, in some small way I am quoting one of my favorite films Overboard. If you don't get it -- you don't deserve to).
Lauren had a bit of a rough start. She's always been a sick dancer, but in her first few performances she had a bit of a Pollyanna thing going and nobody was digging it. But unlike most dancers, she took what the judges said to heart and she turned herself around and became a hard-hitting and sexy force on stage. She literally improves every week, which is something you hope for out of people like her, but rarely see. Lauren is the sh*t in my book. I love this chick.
Highlight of the night:
Kenny Ortega sat in as a guest judge. This is the man responsible for what we were able to see in Michael Jackson's final film debut, This Is It -- not to mention all of the High School Musical films and so much more. Even though his criticisms were benign, I actually enjoyed having him on the panel.
Quote of the Night: "Save a horse, ride a cowboy." -- Adam Shankman after watching Lauren and Twitch's loosely based hip-hop cowboy routine.
Contestant Solo of the Night goes to Ade'Chike' -- and I'm not even a fan. However, his solo completely won me over. For the first time, I looked at him as a true dancer who (as his mother said) "danced from his heart."
I miss Pasha. Who do you miss watching this season?
