In Episode 7 of my favorite new summer guilty pleasure, Pretty Little Liars, it seems our fearful foursome have gotten a reprieve from their Gossip Girl-esque stalker from beyond-the-grave, A.
In fact, we get through practically the whole episode with nary a peep from A.
Could it be that the girls' outcast neighbor Toby (Keegan Allen), who disappeared after dropping off his injured date Emily (Shay Mitchell) to the hospital emergency room, is really the ghostly texter? It seems like it, given that the texts, letters, emails, et al, have stopped since they found Toby's bike totally slaughtered off the highway.
Personally, I don't think Toby's the guilty one, though. I think he was just misunderstood, made a major mistake (hooking up with his now-blind stepsister Jenna), and actually really liked Emily. Too bad her pals couldn't get past the whole possible murderer thing.
But in the meantime, the girls still have plenty of drama to deal with. Now that her mom knows her dad's been cheating, Aria's (Lucy Hale) parents are acting like children, throwing tantrums and fighting in public. While dad Byron (Chad Lowe) is trying to step up for the sake of the kids, mom Ella (Holly Marie Combs) wants him gone, now! When he won't leave, she decides to move out herself. Meanwhile, Aria's English teacher/tentative boyfriend Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding) has disappeared without telling her. Turns out he may have a new gig lined up in New York. And those flowers she got -- so not from Fitz. In fact, they're from Hanna's ex Sean (Chuck Hittinger), whom Aria got chummy with when Hanna went MIA at homecoming. Ew, Sean. Hitting on your girlfriend's BFF? How dense can you get?
Emily's trying to figure out whether or not she's got the guts to come clean about her kiss -- and possible relationship -- with new neighbor Maya (Bianca Lawson). In the end, she decides to go for it, thanks to some thoughtful advice from pal Hanna (Ashley Benson), who has quickly realized that her relationship with homecoming king Sean is crashing and burning. Plus, she sort of likes geek boy Lucas, who reveals that he was afraid of her and her clique -- thanks to A.'s complete and total bitchiness.
Spencer (Troian Avery Bellisario) is still trying to salvage her relationship with country club ball boy Alex (cutie Diego Gonzalez). She even dons a hair-net to help him out! But she realizes their relationship is bound to face a few bumps when she finds a photo of herself with horns taped up in the country club workers' closet. Someone doesn't like her.
All the while, the girls are trying to get Toby's psych file off their hot little hands. Hanna lifted the thing from his psychologist's office last week, revealing the secret that got him shipped off to rehab for a year. Now his blind stepsister Jenna (Tammin Sursok) is threatening to spill the secrets dead pal Alison told her unless the girls get rid of it. So they do. By tossing it in the creek. C'mon girls -- anyone knows that if you really want to destroy paper, you burn it.
The girls are about to learn that the hard way, because someone with mysteriously gloved hands has found the "destroyed" docs -- and just when they thought they were off scot-free, A.'s back. With a vengeance. Her killer text? "Thanks for helping me get rid of Toby."
Eeeps is right!
Can't wait to see what A. has planned for next week!
