Wesley Snipes, It's Slammer Time

Wesley Snipes Wesley Snipes' appeal is a no go, which means he's headed straight to jail for failure to give Uncle Sam his due.

The actor was convicted in 2008 of tax fraud for failure to pay more than $15 million in back taxes. He appealed the three-year sentence on grounds that it was "unreasonable", but a court this week ruled it's not.

"The district court acted well within its considerable discretion in sentencing Snipes to thirty-six months in prison," the ruling from the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals stated.

Even letters of support from high-powered friends like Denzel Washington and Woody Harrelson and television judges Joe Brown didn't sway the judges to alleviate him from paying the price for failing to pay his taxes.

I don't think anyone should be able to get away with tax fraud, no matter how famous they are. But I don't know if jailing Snipes -- at taxpayers' expense -- is the solution either. Can't we just find him a few new movie roles and require all his proceeds go to paying back his debt?

Do you think Wesley Snipes should be sent to prison for tax fraud?
