In a ceremony that makes the White House Secret Service look like a bunch of mall cops, American Idol Carrie Underwood (27) wed Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher (30). The couple met at a concert in 2008, where friends fixed them up. They announced their engagement in December ‘09, and Carrie gave her hockey hunk a shout-out in the liner notes to her CD Play On.
The wedding took place at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge/Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia, where they rented out the whole dang place. The groom’s Canadian, but the bride is a Southern belle -- and played that role to the hilt!
She reportedly wore a gown in Chantilly lace from designer Monique Lhuillier. Guests like Fisher’s teammates and hotel sources said it wasn’t a crazy Hollywood wedding -- just a nice party with down-to-earth people getting married, with Southern food and cupcakes.
It’s been a busy year for the Idol -- an appearance at the Grammy Awards where she was part of the Michael Jackson tribute, followed by singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. She won big at the CMT Music Awards, and will be on tour starting in August -- barely back from her honeymoon! Husband Fisher has said he appreciates her work ethic, and the fact that she’s on the road as much as he is -- we hope these two can make it work long-distance!
And hey -- this makes the bride another Carrie Fisher! Was Obi-Wan Kenobi invited?
