'Despicable Me' Tops 'Eclipse': Why Minions Trump Vampires

Despicable MeDespicable Me knocked Eclipse right off of the box office throne during its opening this past weekend, grossing over $60 million.

So how do 3-D yellow minions top vampires?

The story follows super-villain Gru (played by Steve Carell) who is competing for the spot of world's most successful villain against his much younger nemesis Vector (played by Jason Segel). In an attempt to get inside Vector's mansion to get his hands on a powerful weapon so he can fulfill his quest to steal the moon, Gru adopts three adorable little girls to use their cookie selling as a ploy.

As much as he tries to resist, he slowly finds himself becoming a father. With moments that will tug at your heartstrings (such as the reading of the Sleepy Kittens book where the girls force him to act out the parts), and humor that even adults will enjoy, it's one of those movies that an entire family can go to and everyone will love it.

Not to mention, Gru's workforce, the minions, will steal your heart -- they're just too fun. I walked out of the theater really wanting my very own minion.

Definitely one of the best movies of the summer, and, dare I say, possibly year.

Have you seen Despicable Me? If so, did you like it?
