Living up to the hype, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse had a massive five-day box office weekend bringing in $161 million. While the opening day total was lower than New Moon, one big shift in the audience helped to move the vampire series closer to the mainstream: men.
The New Moon audience was 80 percent female, while Eclipse evened things out with the female fans making up only 65 percent of the movie attendees. More blood = more dudes?
Even after getting panned by the critics, M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender came in second at the box office this holiday weekend with $53.2 million since its Thursday release. (Eclipse was released on Wednesday, one day ahead of The Last Airbender.)
Summit Entertainment, the Twilight film's distributor, did blame the 4th for lower numbers than anticipated -- even though it was a blockbuster opening -- saying the weather can play a part in people staying outdoors rather than heading inside for a movie.
Did you see Eclipse or The Last Airbender this weekend?
