When in Rome ($15.49 on Amazon)

Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) stars as a tightly wound, super-single New Yorker who travels to Italy for her sister's birthday and finds herself with five possible suitors, including SNL's Bill Hader, Parenthood's Dax Shepard, and Fergie's husband, Josh Duhamel. It's light, it's fun, and it's a chick flick -- what else do you need to know?

Happy Tears ($19.99 on Amazon)

Here's a CFOTW (Chick Flick of the Week) that digs a little deeper: Demi Moore and Parker Posey star as sisters who return to their hometown to look after their dad, played by Rip Torn -- and disagree on how to care for him. Ellen Barkin plays his possibly malevolent "lady friend." The all-too-common sitch will hit home with many -- and a Father's Day comedy/weeper might be just the ticket.

Mary and Max ($18.99 on Amazon)

This Claymation film features the voices of Toni Collette and Philip Seymour Hoffman as unlikely pen pals (at the start, she's a lonely, depressed Australian 8-year-old and he's a nearly 50-year-old autistic New Yorker, and the story spans many years as their friendship progresses). It's not easy subject matter -- it's described as "dark and tender and strange and disconcerting and lovely." All of which sounds great to me, but maybe not so much for the kids.

The Book of Eli (16.99 on Amazon)

The world as we know it has ended, and Denzel Washington is left behind. Yum, I'll repopulate that planet. Ok, but seriously, this dark, spooky thriller has him wandering through deserts and battling Gary Oldman for control of this new, lawless globe. There's a spiritual subtext, and co-stars Jennifer Beals (Flashdance) and Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) round out the cast. This is fine to watch with your husband -- he'll like the stuff blowing up, you'll like the Denzel.

Youth in Revolt ($16.49 on Amazon)

Or maybe your tastes run more toward adorable Michael Cera. Here, he stars as a quirky-smart 16-year-old (does he ever play another kind?) who falls for a gorgeous babe on vacation and creates an alternate personality to woo her. Trouble is, his alternate personality unleashes his inhibitions, and hilarity ensues. Look for Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Justin Long, Fred Willard, and other indie-film darlings rounding out the cast, and maybe double-check it before showing it to your teen.
