Just as everyone knew would happen, Casey James was voted out, and it's Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze in the final two of one of the most predictable seasons of American Idol ever.

After a way-too-long question-and-answer session with the contestants, there were flashbacks to their hometown visits.

Lee's was particularly moving. The sentimental trip back to the paint store where he worked before Idol plus the shots of his proud father moved to tears caused me to reach for the Kleenex ... and maybe pull me a little more toward Team Lee (sorry, Crystal). He truly seems humbled by the whole experience.

Perez Hilton (who's looking nice and trim these days) made an appearance touting his responsibility for discovering Travis Garland. Garland may have a good voice, but his performance on Idol was pretty awkward. The multitude of dancers -- particularly the girl in the super-short white cutoffs -- didn't help.

Justin Bieber delighted the crowd with "U Smile" followed immediately by "Baby" in which he took to the drums to close the song. He really is adorable, and he can definitely play drums. Is there anything he can't do?

Then finally, in the last minutes of the show, Ryan Seacrest announced Casey's fate. No one pretended to be surprised.

Most of what I thought about during this week's results show was: Thank God these are only going to be 30 minutes next year.
