Amazon; $7.91If your kids start talking tattoos and become obsessed with a book about seagulls, blame Justin Bieber. The teen sensation celebrated his 16th birthday with a tattoo of a gull on his hip.
He reportedly chose the design based on a book titled Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. Published in 1970, it's a tale of spirituality and finding a higher purpose in life.
A nice sentimental statement, and apparently all the men in his family take part in the tat tradition, so it was no random act of rebellion. But still, he's only 16. I wonder how the original shape will morph as he continues to grow?
Two predictions: 1) Bach's book is going to be back on the bestseller list in no time (it was there in 1972-73); and 2) teens (and a few crafty tweens) everywhere are going to be lining up at tattoo parlors with a copy in their hands.
Also on the Bieber beat ... the heartthrob with the hair was recently nominated for a BET award. And yes, BET does stand for Black Entertainment Television.
So why the award for the white boy?
"Bieber has crossed the color boundaries the same way that hip-hop has crossed the boundaries the other way for a number of years," said Stephen Hill, BET's President of Music Programming and Specials.
Bieber is up against artists Young Money, Wale, Melanie Fiona, and Nicki Minaj for Best New Artist. The awards show will be June 27 in Los Angeles.
Soar Justin, soar!
