Remember the name Lin Yu Chun. He just may be the next unlikely singing talent to take the world by storm in much the same manner Susan Boyle has.
Sony Entertainment is so sure of his potential that they signed a deal with Yu Chun, and his first album will be released in July in both Chinese and English.
Millions of people have already viewed via YouTube Yu Chun's rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," which he sang last month on the Taiwanese reality television show, Avenue to Stardom.
The 24-year-old crooner is a bit awkward and a little chubby and has a bowl cut (thus all the Susan Boyle comparisons being made), but man can he blow. He actually sounds a lot like Houston -- no easy feat.
Though he was voted off Avenue to Stardom, the world went wild viral-style for his singing. He came to the United States to make the media rounds, and his performance of "Amazing Grace" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show was ... well, amazing. Beware of serious goose bumps if you watch.
I'm so happy for Yu Chun and for everyone else out there who isn't the shining star, but still a talented one. It provides hope that if you have true talent, you will, someday, shine.
Yu Chun, whose lifelong nickname has been "Little Fatty," told the Associated Press, "You don't have to be a good-looking man or woman to succeed. Just be yourself and try your best."
My pessimistic side is a bit leery that Sony is just trying to capitalize on his awkwardness and wants him to hang on to Susan Boyle's coattails. But in any case, good for him and the promise his future holds.
In a statement released by Sony, Yu Chun said, "I still can't believe this is real."
Talk about goose bumps ...
What do you think of Lin Yu Chun's performances -- will he be as big or bigger than Susan Boyle?
