Photo by Jason Merritt/GettyRocker Lenny Kravitz has generously stepped up and agreed to headline a benefit concert to help Louisiana residents on Sunday May 16. Kravitz, who has a home in New Orleans, wants to help raise money for those affected by the massive oil spill that has occurred in the Gulf of Mexico.
Even though the British company BP is liable for cleanup costs, many residents are suffering the economic impact from lost business and tourist dollars. Lenny isn't the only celebrity with ties to New Orleans. I hope some of these stars will show up and pitch in as well:
Sandra Bullock: She's made headlines this week just by being in New Orleans, where her newly adopted baby was born. Something tells me she could use a night out!
Brangelina: Like Lenny, they have a home in New Orleans. I know Angelina is busy shooting a film, but maybe Brad and the boys could turn out?
Harry Connick Jr.: A lifelong resident, it'd be nice to hear him tickle the old ivories and raise some money for those who need help.
Ellen DeGeneres: She also grew up there and does awesome giveaways on her show. Maybe it's time for Ellen to do a little road trip? She does love to dance, after all.
Mos Def, Ani DiFranco, and Allen Toussaint have also agreed to perform at the event at Mardi Gras World River City this Sunday. Hopefully they can bring some cash and morale support to a city that's had its fair share of hard times.
What celebrity would you most like to see on stage with Lenny?
