Photo from bravotv.comI braced myself for the drama as I sat down to watch the second episode of this season's The Real Housewives of New Jersey ... and kept bracing myself ... but the drama was pretty dismal, much to my disappointment.
Oh, it was still entertaining (how can it not be with that cast?), but only marginally so, unfortunately.
Most-detested Danielle did pull in some sympathy points when she broke down to her realtor (who looked really uncomfortable) about having to sell her house (previously valued at $2 million) at a loss. But she quickly lost the points when she went all psycho stage mom as her daughter, Christine Staub, had her first professional photo shoot for The Daily Front Row.
Danielle's daughter is gorgeous and was clearly embarrassed by her overbearing mother (who somehow ended up in one of the photos), but it didn't stop Danielle from hosting a luncheon to celebrate herself her daughter.
Danielle was pissed that Dina and Jacqueline didn't show for the celebration (even though they told her ahead of time they couldn't), but tried (and failed) to appear all Zen about it.
"I'm just going to wish them love, wrap them in a beautiful light ... I'm not passive, and I'm not aggressive. And I always said, stay in the positive and I wish everyone love and light."
The rest of the episode was focused on the pretty uninteresting children of the rest of the cast -- Caroline's daughter dating her son's best friend (yawn), and Jacqueline's 18-year-old daughter moving out on her own (who cares?). Teresa's daughter, Gia, is cute and all, but footage of her auditions and strutting around could be seriously minimized.
There were some great fighting words from Caroline: "She will never win. She will never win against us. Never," uttered about Danielle over an arugula salad. But really, that was about as dramatic as it got.
I hope this week's episode was just a little breather to brace us for much, much more drama to come.
