A Letter to My Mom

Dear Mama,

You've been the one person in my life who's always been there for me -- from patching up my childhood scrapes with imaginary "boo boo medicine" to never missing a soccer game, even if it was hours away, to being my rock as I grew into adulthood.

I look at where I am at today and realize there's no way I'd ever be here if it wasn't for you. Thanks to the values you instilled in me and your unwavering support, I'm able to live out my dream. Our dream. It took a helluva lot to get here, didn't it? But we did it.

You always encouraged me to be myself (even when "myself" happened to be barking like a dog in the grocery store ... ), and your words of wisdom, "Always try your best, that's all I can ask of you" gave me enough push to try with all of my might, but if I did happen to fail, it was okay, because afterward, I still had the courage to try again. Those two things shaped me more than you'll ever know.

The sacrifices that you've made to give me a happy life are incomparable. I still don't understand how or why you gave up so much for me; I never deserved it. But I suppose that's one of the many reasons why you're so amazing. So loving, caring, and giving. If I'm able to be half the mother you were to me for my children, I'll consider myself lucky.

I hope you know how wonderful you are and how much I appreciate you. Happy Mother's Day, Mama. I love you so very much.

Love always,
