Recently, an interest in true crime has seen a major resurgence, especially when it comes to TV series and documentaries that explore some of the most fascinating cases. It's easy to see why -- although these docs usually cover some pretty dark stuff, it's also interesting to see how the investigations come together, especially with all the behind-the-scenes content that these kinds of shows and series lend themselves to. And lately, there have been all kinds of additions to the genre that are definitely worth a watch.

Although the first part of 2019 was all about everything and anything that had to do with Ted Bundy, these documentaries are about so much more than that. Some of them follow disappearances that have never been solved, as well as murders that changed the cultural landscape. And one series even focuses on the killers themselves as they're awaiting the death penalty in prison. There's definitely something for everyone's interest here, and there's a good chance that these documentaries will be brand new to even the most seasoned true crime fans out there.

Here are some upcoming and recently released true crime documentaries that any fan isn't going to want to miss. Whether we've heard of these cases before or are brand new to them as we watch the documentaries for the first time, we're always finding out new details about these crimes that remind us why this is such an interesting genre in the first place.

But just to be safe -- might wanna watch these with the lights on. Just in case!

(Something tells us it's going to be creepy.)

'The Disappearance of Susan Cox Powell'

Although this documentary originally premiered on Oxygen, it's now coming to Sky Crime, and it's a doozy. Her husband's alibi is more than suspicious, and so is the history of his family -- and the whole thing ends in a way that we definitely didn't see coming.

In this Starz docuseries, Leavenworth is about Clint Lorance, a former member of the military who is serving a 19-year sentence for murder. But not everyone's convinced that he's actually guilty, and this series explores why. The circumstances around what happened to Lorance in Afghanistan are so confusing, and fortunately, this should help clear it up.

'The Preppy Murder'

In October, the five-part series The Preppy Murder: Death In Central Park premiered on AMC, following the 1986 murder of Jennifer Levin. It examines victim-blaming and sexism that can run rampant in cases like this one -- especially when the New York private school crowd gets involved. Jennifer's story is heartbreaking, but it's important to talk about.

Will this crime go unsolved, or will the documentary manage to finally piece together the clues years later?
