Some crimes are unthinkable, especially if a child is involved and the alleged predator is family. Recently, Rosie O'Donnell revealed her dad molested her when she was younger, and it's disturbing and disgusting to even imagine. As traumatic as the reality is, the actress's confession has others opening about their own experiences.
  • The mom of five opens up about the sexual abuse in an upcoming book.

Rosie O'Donnell spoke with Ramin Setoodeh, Variety's New York bureau chief. Details about her experience will be in his book, Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View, set to hit bookstores on April 2.

  • "It started very young," the 56-year-old says of the molestation.

"And then when my mother died, it sort of ended in a weird way, because then he was with these five children to take care of," Rosie continues about her father sexually abusing her, People reports. "On the whole, it's not something I like to talk about. Of course, it changes everyone. Any child who is put in that position, especially by someone in the family, you feel completely powerless and stuck, because the person you would tell is the person doing it."

  • Edward Joseph, Rosie's dad, died in 2015 from cancer.

"He had his own issues and demons, he had a very tough childhood, he had an alcoholic, abusive father and never really got the help that I think every person needs when they have lived through that as a child," she once stated about growing up with her dad, People notes. "I think that he had a lot of problems to deal with."

  • Since sharing her experience, there's been an outpouring of support from survivors who are also dealing with similar trauma.

A number of people reacted with empathy, opening up about their own experiences and the pain and difficulty telling their truth. Sadly, many took the opportunity to call Rosie O'Donnell a liar and throw jabs at her in light of her revelation. The post appears to have since been removed.

  • We can't even fathom what Rosie and others have endured.

We can only pray for peace and healing, and hope what happened to them never happens to another child.

    ... ever.
