Mom Allegedly Drove into a Pole With Her Kids in the Car to Prove 'God Is Real'

A young mother has landed herself in jail after purposely driving her car into a pole with her children inside. While the mom and her two children appear to be physically unharmed, it's the woman's wild excuse for why she decided to crash her car with her kids inside that's left law enforcement struggling to understand her truly bizarre behavior.

According to WSB/CNN, 25-year-old Bakari Warren drove her SUV northbound across southbound lanes and directly into a pole in Norcross, Georgia, last Wednesday morning. Her 5-year-old and 7-year-old children were in the backseat of the car during the crash. A security camera stationed across the street from the pole Warren drove into captured the mother driving at a high speed northbound across southbound lanes during the disturbing incident.

When police officers arrived on the scene of the car crash, they safely herded both children and Warren from the car. None of the three sustained any injuries. According to WSB, Sgt. Ed Butynski of the Norcross Police Department said that the accident could have been a lot worse: "It could have been heavier traffic at the time, she could have hit the pole at such an angle that she did more damage to the car."

After the crash, officers questioned the children as they sat safely in the back of a police car. Both kids said that their mother was driving on the wrong side of the road before the crash. When asked if their mother crashed the car on purpose, they said she had.

"Yeah because she turned. Her eyes was closed and she was saying, blah, blah, blah, 'I love God,'"/ one of the kids recalled, according to WSB. "She didn't want us to just have a car accident. She wanted us to know that God is real." Police confirmed that Warren told her kids to buckle up their seat belts just before she began crossing the intersection with the intent to crash into the pole.

Officers arrested Bakari Warren after she was rescued from the SUV along with her kids. Almost immediately, she began giving officers bizarre answers to their questions. "When the officers asked the driver of the vehicle what happened, her first statement to the officers was to check her Facebook and it would explain what happened," said Butynski.

A look at what appears to be Bakari Warren's Facebook account shows nothing directly relating to the crash or a hint about her bizarre motivations. But WSB reports she later made it clear to officers that she crashed the car carrying her children on purpose "to prove that God will protect them."

As of today, Warren is in jail on a $22,000 bond. The mother is currently being charged with two counts of child cruelty. Both of her children have been placed in the care of their grandparents
