A woman who was shot in the head during the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, last weekend reportedly gave a heartbreaking final message to the father of her children. Lois Oglesby, who was struck by a bullet early Sunday when 24-year-old Connor Betts reportedly opened fire, ultimately succumbed to her injuries. But in her final moments, the mom of two is said to have gathered up her remaining strength to FaceTime her children's father.

Oglesby was one of nine victims who died during the violent shooting spree, which broke out shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday and lasted just 30 seconds.

Betts reportedly started firing into a crowd of innocent bystanders outside the Ned Peppers nightclub, while wearing body armor and carrying high-capacity magazines. In less than a minute, the gunman managed to fire 41 shots, which injured 27 people in addition to the nine fatalities.

Oglesby, who leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter and a newborn baby girl, wasted no time in the precious moments after she was shot -- with just minutes left, she reached for her phone, and FaceTime'd her boyfriend, Dee Lee.

In that tragic last call, the mom expressed that the only thing she wanted in that moment was to be at home with her kids.

Lee shared his girlfriend's last words in a heartbreaking Facebook post on August 4. "She FaceTimed Me And Said 'Babe I Just Got Shot In My Head, I Need To Get To My Kids,'" the caption began. "Like That’s Strong As [expletive] To Hold Off To Call Me!! She Was Letting Me Know She Loved Me And To Take Care Of These Kids And I Got You Babe!!!!!! I Can’t Stop Crying!!!!"

In a second post on August 5, the grieving boyfriend shared his complete and utter devastation, writing, "I don't know what to do!!!'

In it, he said that as soon as he opens his eyes in the morning, "tears instantly fall."

"My Girls Momma Gone Man!! " he continued.

More of Oglesby's friends and family have spoken out since the shooting too, sharing their grief over how it is that she can really be gone.

NBC News reported that Oglesby was a nursing student who only recently came back from maternity leave after having her second child.

"She was a wonderful mother," friend Derasha Merrett told the outlet. "I have cried so much, I can't cry anymore."

“We grew up as cousins,” she added to the Dayton Daily News. “We grew up in the same church, on the same drill team. She works at my kids’ day care. We all grew up in this little town. We’re all family. We’re all hurting behind this.”

Police are still investigating what precipitated the rampage, though initial reports claim Betts was "obsessed" with violence and mass shootings.

According to CNN, the 24-year-old -- who was shot and killed by police responding to the scene -- seemed to have an unusual depth of knowledge about previous mass shootings in the US. He had even expressed a desire to commit a mass shooting himself, police said in a news conference Tuesday.

"[He was] very specifically seeking out information that promotes violence," FBI Special Agent in Charge Todd Wickerham added.

Investigators are still working through whether the killing spree in Dayton was the result of a planned attack or if something triggered Betts to snap. In the meantime, the Betts family is cooperating with police so more can be learned.

In a statement released this week, the family said they were "shocked and devastated" by their son's actions and asked for privacy while they "process the horror" of Sunday. Compounding their shock is the simultaneous loss of their daughter, as one of Betts' victims was his own sister, 22-year-old Megan Betts.

As the victims' families continue to grieve, the community is also banding together. This week, the Miami Valley Community Action Partnership began raising money to cover funeral costs and provide long-term care of the children who were left behind.
