Husband of Kidnapped 'Super Mom' Gives Chilling Details After Her Abduction

Sherri Keith Papini
ABC News

When missing "super mom" Sherri Papini was released by her captor on Thanksgiving Day, it was a joyous day. She was reunited with her husband and soon, presumably, her two young children. All wonderful news. But for this mom and her family, the struggle is far from over. Today her husband Keith Papini released a detailed statement about their ordeal and Sherri's physical condition, which revealed just how far they have to go.

In the exclusive statement Keith Papini provided to Good Morning America, the clearly distraught husband thanks the public, law enforcement, and many others for their overwhelming help and hope after Sherri went missing. "Thank you to the many incredible humans that have never known Sherri that facilitated in sharing our heart break across the globe," Papini said. "Sherri has always captured my heart and it is no surprise that she has captured the hearts not only through the country, but throughout the world."

But then Mr. Papini did not mince words when he addresses the many conspiracy theorists and true crime gawkers spreading stories online about Sherri's past and motives behind this case:

Rumors, assumptions, lies, and hate have been both exhausting and disgusting. Those people should be ashamed of their malicious, sub human behavior. We are not going to allow those people to take away our spirit, love, or rejoice in our girl found alive and home where she belongs. I understand people want the story, pictures, proof that this was not some sort of hoax, plan to gain money, or some fabricated race war. I do not see a purpose in addressing each preposterous lie. Instead, may I give you a glimpse of the mixture of horror and elation that was my experience of reuniting with the love of my life and mother of our children.

He then bravely shared many gruesome details about his wife's condition once she was rescued off the highway and brought to a nearby hospital. These details included "her face covered in bruises ranging from yellow to black because of repeated beatings" and "the bridge of her nose broken." He described his wife's already petite frame as a "now emaciated body of 87 pounds," "covered in multi colored bruises, severe burns, red rashes, and chain markings," and confirmed "her signature long, blonde hair had been chopped off."

Possibly among one the most horrifying details was this: "She has been branded and I could feel the rise of her scabs under my fingers." Branded. On her skin. As in burned or maybe tattooed by her captors? Absolutely disturbing and utterly heartbreaking. Not to mention the fact that branding is often seen in human/sex trafficking cases as well.
