2 Teens Are Dead Following a Shooting at Florida Nightclub -- Will It Ever End?

shooting at Florida nightclubWhat can only be described as a parent's greatest fear has happened once again. An event for teens, hosted at a Fort Myers, Florida, nightclub, ended in tragedy as a shooting claimed the lives of two teens, 14-year-old Sean Archilles and 18-year-old Stef'An Strawder, and injured as many as 14 others, ages 12–27.

Teens and young adults were enjoying a summer night at Club Blu Bar & Grill, but the evening took a deadly turn when a shooter opened fire on club-goers as they exited and waited to be picked up by their parents.

This latest violence comes not even two months after 49 people were killed at an Orlando nightclub. Though it is little consolation to families of these victims, according to police, this shooting was not an act of terrorism. Officers have detained three adults in connection with the deadly crime, according to CNN, but additional details have not yet emerged.

Still, the horrific act has struck fear into not only those who attended the party but the entire community as well.

The club posted a message, which has since been removed, expressing concern for the victims and emphasizing that the violence did not take place inside the club nor was it initiated by the teens in attendance.

Parents sending their kids to this all-ages event were probably thinking this was a fun way to get them out of the house to spend a safe evening among friends.

Yet from his hospital bed, Timothy Settles, one of the victims, was left fearing for his life. He posted this message to his Facebook account:

While no one wants to live in fear, these senseless and unspeakable acts make it nearly impossible. No longer are parents simply worried about drinking and driving or the perils of drugs; now rampant gun violence is added to the list.

We wish peace and healing for all the victims and their families.
