Mom Abandons 8-Year-Old at Hospital Because She Can't Handle His Temper Tantrums

A mom from Utah is facing child abuse charges after she dropped her 8-year-old off at a hospital with a note saying that she didn't want him anymore. The note read, "This kid is rude and ungovernable! I do not want him in my house at all!"

According to the mother, her son was uncontrollable, pulling down his pants in public, and calling her a b*tch. The mom, who has been charged with child abandonment and child abuse, is the mother of four other children with special needs and said she felt "overwhelmed" because she was caring for all the kids alone. She felt that by dropping him off at the hospital she would get the help she needed. And now she wants him back.

I think it's fair to say that most parents understand that you just can't abandon your kid, no matter how bad he or she is acting. But that being said, there needs to be more resources for parents when they are feeling at their wit's end and don't know what to do.

As sad and awful as this is, it could have been much worse had the mom resorted to other measures instead of dropping her son off at the hospital. I'm not saying she would have harmed him (or worse), but it really does seem she had no idea what else she could do. Although she denied it, the son already claimed that she hit him on the arm and bruised him with a spoon.

Utah does have a safe haven law where parents can drop off newborn babies at a hospital when they are up to three days old, but that doesn't apply to kids who are older than that. Her son is now in protective custody.
