Mom Shoots Back at Intruders Who Entered Her Home While Breastfeeding

This woman is my new hero. 21-year-old Semantha Bunce was home feeding her baby boy last week, when she heard someone break into her house. So this mama went into survival mode and put the baby in his crib and grabbed the gun before going to confront the intruders.

Bunce, a combat medic in the National Guard had been home alone with her 4-month-old son while her husband was at work and their daughter was at school. She wasn't about to be confronted unarmed with a baby in her lap, so she sprung into action.

The men opened fire from the stairwell, and shot back from the bedroom door. They managed to hit her twice, but the baby was completely unharmed after her gunfire drove the criminals away. Thankfully, mama is recuperating in the hospital after a successful surgery.

Her husband Paul said it was her military training that helped her remain cool and calm during the crisis, but I can't help but believe some of it came from her mama bear instincts. She did everything she could to protect that little boy, including taking some bullets and firing a few more in order to save him.

It's unknown how many were involved in the invasion, but the shooter, Reco Latur Dawkins Jr., 23, turned himself in on Saturday morning. He's been charged with attempted murder, felony breaking and entering, and conspiracy.

Bunce's friend and fellow soldier Hollie Ritchie started a GoFundMe page to help cover medical costs, and it's raised nearly $35,000 in just a few days. She said of her friend in an update post, "She's quite the fighter and incredibly inspirational ... She expressed so much gratitude to everyone for their generosity and kindness."

This mom is such an inspiration and a testament to power a of a mother's love for her children. We are hoping for a speedy and full recovery for her.
