Dad Drives Family of 5 Into Lake in Suspected Murder-Suicide (VIDEO)

car crashAn unthinkable tragedy has occurred in the Arizona town of Tempe: A father allegedly intentionally drove his wife and three children into Tempe Town Lake early Sunday morning. Glenn Baxter, his wife Danica, and their three children Reighn, Nazyiah, and Zariyah all died, despite the efforts of a fisherman who dove into the lake to try to save them.

The fisherman was joined by Tempe police officers, but to no avail. And it was soon very clear that this crash was in no way an accident: Surveillance footage shows Baxter actually getting out of his SUV to inspect the barrier around the lake's edge before getting back into the car and speeding toward the lake. At 12:15 a.m., the SUV flipped over the barrier and plunged into the water.

According to the Associated Press, Tempe police spokesman Michael Pooley said that "Mr. Baxter took deliberate action."

"It's absolutely horrific what happened to those little kids and their mother."

Indeed, the details are chilling:

Apparently Glenn and Danica were estranged, and a handgun was found in the car, though it's not known if Glenn forced his wife and children into the car at gunpoint.

Honestly, though, does it even matter how they got into the car? The end result is the same. Unless Danica and the kids were sleeping, surely they knew something really, really bad was about to happen. Or maybe if the kids were young enough, the true gravity of the situation went over their heads. I truly hope that's the case. But poor Danica. Knowing that her life and the lives of her children were about to end and there was nothing she could do about it. It's truly unfathomable.

May they all rest in peace.
