Mom-of-the-Year Buys Her Daughter 12 Bags of Cocaine for Her 18th Birthday

Can someone please take away this woman's Mom Card? She clearly is undeserving of the honor. Nicola Austen had the brilliant idea to buy her daughter nearly $500 worth of cocaine for her eighteenth birthday, to make sure she would have a "good time."

The 37-year-old mom of three had the drug divided into 12 bags, and was planning on taking it with her and her daughter on a limo ride to London from their house in Kent. Because there's no better way to celebrate your teen's birthday than with highly addictive narcotics.

Somehow, Austen managed to avoid any jail time, due to the fact that she cares for her 14-year-old son, and her absence in the home would adversely affect him. Because apparently you don't get cocaine in that house until you're a legal adult. It's all very proper over there in England.

Not surprisingly, this isn't Austen's first bust for drugs. She has six previous convictions, including one for possessing amphetamines. She arrived at her hearing with her bags packed, expecting to be jailed for up to nine months. Instead, the judge let her off and imposed 250 hours of "onerous" unpaid work.

When asked about the ordeal, Austen told reporters, "It's all been blown out of proportion ... I've had enough. It isn't exactly the scoop of the century, is it? It was a party."

Um, the lady bought her teenage daughter 5.65 grams of cocaine for her birthday. A sniffer dog found the stash hidden in her room last January, divided into 12 individual "wraps." Prosecutor Craig Evans said in Friday's hearing that Austen admitted to possessing the coke in anticipation of her daughter's birthday.

"They were going to London in a limousine and she wanted to make sure they had a good time," he said.

Mom of the year, that one.
