Mom Shot Saving Her Children's Lives During Tragic Gun Attack

There isn't much a mother would not do for her child. This was recently exemplified by Wisconsin mom Erin Stoffel, who took three bullets in order to save two of her children's lives. She was with her husband and three children on a pedestrian bridge in Menasha on Sunday, May 3, when a gunman opened fire on them.

Stoffel was with her family on any other ordinary Sunday last weekend, when Sergio Del Toro, 27, allegedly opened fire on them. According to reports, he did so after an argument with his ex-fiancée, and he did not know any of his victims. After the shooting spree, he turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

Stoffel tragically lost her husband and eldest daughter in the shooting, but her heroism saved the lives of her two younger children. When Del Toro opened fire, she shoved her son Ezra, 7, and her daughter Selah, 5, off the bridge, taking three bullets in the process.

Her husband Jonathan, 33, and daughter Olivia, 11, didn't make it. But despite this tragedy, Erin sent her young son Ezra to get help.

Dr. Ray Georgen at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah said this Monday, "You can never underestimate the power of a mother to protect her children. To have three gunshot wounds and be able to get off that bridge and save two of her children is incredible to think about ... it's an amazing story of heroism on her part and certainly of her children."

Police Chief Tim Styka called Erin Stoffel's moves "absolutely amazing." He said, "Despite being shot multiple times, Ms. Stoffel was able to ... (instruct) her young son to go run for assistance."

Yet another supporter of this brave young mom, Winnebago County coroner Barry Busby, said, "True heroes going into an act of fire, where they don't know what's out there on this unprotected bridge, but trying to save other people ... and I think their fast response helped save a lot of people."

In case you're interested in helping this amazing family, they have a GoFundMe page set up to cover medical costs and hopefully other expenses.

Would you do the same for your kids?
