Jessica Chambers

The Facebook page titled Justice for Jessica Lane informs the public that reward money has been raised to $53,000 and pleads, Someone somewhere KNOWS what happened. It’s been almost two months since Jessica Chambers was discovered burning to death near her car in Panola County, Mississippi, and no arrests have been made. No suspects have been identified. After over 100 interviews, investigators say they have absolutely no idea who killed this girl.

Friends and family gathered Saturday to celebrate what would've been her 20th birthday on February 2. Her father said,

We just wanted to do something for Jessica's birthday thinking maybe people might see this who know something and see the hurt they've caused other people. Maybe they might come forward.

In her last hours alive, 19-year-old Jessica is seen on surveillance video from a gas station on Highway 51 in Courtland, Mississippi. She walks toward the gas station before being called away by someone out of the camera's view. She can be seen waving before going over to talk to the person, and shortly afterward, from another angle, video captures a man in a striped shirt fill up what appears to be a gas can before walking off in the same direction Jessica went. Jessica eventually returned to her car, finished pumping gas, and drove away.

The video was recorded 90 minutes before her horrific death. She was found burning near her car that was also engulfed in flames. Jessica was flown to a hospital in Memphis but later died. Early autopsy results reveal that Jessica succumbed to severe burns that covered 98 percent of her body.

Her father received the unspeakable news that his daughter had been deliberately set on fire:

When the fire department got there, she was walking down the road on fire. Only part of her body that wasn't burned was the bottom of her feet. They squirted lighter fluid down her throat and in her nose, and apparently they knocked her out. She had a big gash on top of her head.

Her father believes that in her final moments, Jessica whispered something to the investigators that might help them find who could have done such a thing:

She told them, she told them, told him who done it.

It’s been almost two months since she died, but officials say they haven’t gotten any closer to finding the killer. There’s been some criticism of the way the case has been handled (for instance, Jessica’s burned car wasn’t taken directly to impound, since the driver stopped along the way — oddly enough, at the same gas station where she was caught on camera), but her father isn’t blaming investigators.

It’s a terrible story, made all the more tragic by the fact that no leads seem to be surfacing in the hunt for whoever murdered this girl in such a brutal way. Please share this story, and if anyone knows anything that might help, the family begs you to call Panola County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169.
