3-Year-Old Found Crying in Hotel Hallway While Dad Was in Casino Gambling

child alone hallwayWhen taking a gambling vacation, the smartest thing to do is to bring your toddler along, right? I suppose if you're a gambling man -- that is what you do, and then you leave the child alone so you can hit the slots. Thirty-three-year-old Troy Forster of Windsor Locks, Connecticut, was staying at the Fox Tower at Foxwoods with his girlfriend and 3-year-old son when he decided to take a huge gamble and leave his child alone so he could go to the casino.

It was 2:35 a.m. when police were called to the hotel because a child was crying in the hallway all alone. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police believe the child was alone for more than three hours. He was most likely asleep when his dad left the room, but then woke up scared and alone so he left the room searching for his family.

As police were looking into security camera footage and trying to locate the father, Forster arrived. It was 2:56 a.m. He was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor. The Department of Children and Families is looking into the case, and Forster is free on bond but has a court date for December 29.

I hope we all agree that a child should never be left alone in a hotel room. I feel so sad for this little guy who was probably terrified when he woke up in a strange place without anyone around. Thankfully he stayed in the hotel hallway and didn't wander off outside in the cold and dark. A casino is no place for a child -- plus, there is often too much alcohol being consumed. People's judgment gets impaired. This story could have ended up a lot worse, and let's hope Forster realized this was not the right thing to do -- a gamble not worth taking.

Would you ever take a child to a casino vacation? Do you think this dad deserves to be charged?
