A Texas man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of capital murder charges in the drowning death of 3-year-old Mason Cuttler. According to People, Bobby Woods Jr., 21, was sentenced to life in prison after he pushed the toddler into a lake -- allegedly to make more room for another child in the home they shared.

At the time of the August 17, 2015, murder, Woods was living in a home occupied by multiple families.

Woods was living with Mason's aunt, Billie Jean Cuttler, at the time, with whom he was expecting a baby. As he later admitted to police, however, Woods killed the boy simply because they needed more space.

Woods explained to authorities that he pushed the toddler into a pond near Lufkin, Texas, turned his back, and let him drown. It wasn't until the following day, August 18, that the boy's body was found shortly after he was reported missing.

Even more shocking? A police investigation determined that Billie Jean Cuttler had never been pregnant.

It was only then that Woods claimed it was his 23-year-old girlfriend -- not him -- who wanted the boy dead. In June, Billie Jean plead guilty in exchange for a lesser sentence of conspiracy to commit murder and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Whatever the true motive was behind the murder, Woods was finally brought to justice last week for his actions.

He had been waiting in Angelina County Jail for nearly four years before his trial began, KTRE reports. But on Friday, friends and family of the Cuttlers were finally able to get the resolution they deserved for the little boy's death. Although nothing will bring little Mason back, it perhaps provides some solace that Woods and Billie Jean are being held accountable.
