Man & Teen Charged With Killing 8-Year-Old to Get Revenge on His Mother

A week ago we found out that an 8-year-old boy named Jakari Pearson was sleeping soundly in his bed in Detroit when he was suddenly hit and killed by a stray bullet that came out of nowhere. Police suspected his mother's ex-boyfriend might have something to do with it, but nothing could be confirmed.

Until now. And what may have happened is far worse than we imagined.

This was no mistake, according to police. Calvin Mosby, 28, who had dated Jakari's mother, and a 17-year-old boy named Devaunte Starks have been charged with first-degree murder for fatally shooting the little boy as he slept. Judging by the details, this wasn't a heat-of-the-moment killing.

Police say Mosby visited the child's mother the day before he shot him and threatened to kill her. He then allegedly returned to the housing project at about 1:30 a.m. the following day with Starks. Jakari was shot and killed by a bullet that cops say penetrated one of the walls in the home. The child's mom was also reportedly shot but has survived.

In a statement, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy had the following to say:

Nothing is sacred anymore. This is the second such incident in a few weeks in which a young child was allegedly deliberately and callously killed to get back at their parent.

Worthy is referring to another INSANE case in which a Michigan toddler named Kamiya LaShawn Gross-French was reportedly shot in the head by a man who killed her so that he could get revenge on her father. This happened just a few weeks before this poor boy was killed as he slept.

How low does a person have to sink to make a child pay for his bruised ego with his or her own life? I cannot believe these suspects haven't thought beyond the day in which they decided to pull those triggers. How can anyone have so little value for life?

We aren't yet sure what is the connection between the adult suspect and his teen accomplice -- but way to go, dragging a young person into your web of crazy. The men have pleaded not guilty and are being held without bond. In addition to murder charges, they've also been charged with discharging a weapon at a building causing death, assault with intent to commit murder, and Mosby has been charged with possession of a firearm.

What consequences do you feel the suspects should face if found guilty?
