Man Accused of Murdering Girlfriend's Fetus With 'Abortion Pancake'

PancakesA Kansas man has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery for allegedly lacing a pancake with crushed up abortion pills and feeding it to his pregnant girlfriend without her knowledge.

Thirty-year-old Scott Bollig will be arraigned September 9. During a two-day preliminary hearing last week, prosecutors presented evidence that Naomi Abbott lost her unborn child on January 31 due to ingestion of the drug mifepristone, which causes spontaneous miscarriages in earlier stages of pregnancy. It is believed she was 8 to 10 weeks pregnant.

WaKeeney Police Chief Terry Eberle testified on Thursday that Bollig admitted to crushing up abortion pills he had bought online and cooking them into a pancake for Abbott. The poor woman ate three-fourths of it on January 26 or 27 and lost the baby a few days later.

She suspected something was up almost immediately and reported to an officer that she believed she'd been unknowingly fed something by her boyfriend in order to terminate her pregnancy.

Investigators said Bollig admitted to purchasing six pills online and lacing two of them into the pancake in question.

Oyza, what an awful thing to do to another person! It looks like he'll be facing some pretty serious consequences if he's convicted though -- first-degree murder isn't exactly a slap on the wrist.

Because this case involved the termination of a pregnancy at a stage when many women voluntarily have abortions, it raises a lot of questions about the morality of ending an unborn life. Why is this child's life worth a murder charge, but the fetus of a woman undergoing an abortion isn't? If it's a separate life, isn't it a separate life, and no one should have the right to end it, including the mother?

The issue here is that it was involuntary though. This mom did not choose to have her child's life ended before it began, because the choice was taken away from her. Maybe instead of it being my body, my choice, it should be my baby, my choice.

Abbott deserved to have her choice to keep her baby respected, regardless of the fact that many women choose to abort. Every woman is responsible for her own pregnancy, and if a mom says her fetus is a child and worthy of life, then that child deserves justice when he's murdered.

Do you think the murder charges are too harsh?
