16-Year-Old Arrested for Killing Newlywed Father-to-Be Gets Unexpected Gift

trapuzzanoThe murder of Nathan Trapuzzano struck a chord with us for many reasons: he was a young, newlywed father-to-be just out for a stroll. Now his wife is left to raise a child that will never know its dad. Today, this heartbreaking case took another gut-wrenching turn. Police have arrested 16-year-old Simeon Adams for the shooting. As horrific as it is, his age is not even the shocking part.

The boy was found hours after the shooting with a gunshot wound to his own neck. Trapuzzano's wife Jennifer had some surprising words for the young man who allegedly gunned down her husband in a suspected robbery. "Oh how my already wounded heart aches to hear this," she said after learning his age. "Nate always said one of the greatest crimes in the world today is how many babies grow up without their father. I don't know this man's circumstances but it hurts to hear that such a young man could turn to such violence. Please pray for his conversion."

Wow. Just wow. Most people would have nothing but vicious, hateful words for such a criminal. This poor woman lost the love of her life just one month before their first child is born. It's a tragedy beyond measure. But she miraculously hasn't let that harden her heart. The fact that Simeon is so young seems to give her hope that he can change.

Forgiveness is such a powerful thing -- and not just to the person receiving it. I can't imagine the courage and goodness of heart it took to utter those words. Many people have said that it's harder to hold on to hate than to just let it go and find peace somehow. Thank goodness Jennifer has her faith to help her cope.

And Simeon will most certainly need those prayers Jennifer has asked for. He is being charged with murder for Trapuzzano, but that isn't the only shooting he is suspected of. He may have shot someone else days before. It's all so very sad.

Could you do what this wife did?
