New Break in Madeleine McCann Case Leads to Disturbing New Suspect

last photo of madeleine mccannThe latest development in the ongoing Madeleine McCann investigation could easily send chills up your spine ... Authorities are reportedly now looking for a man who assaulted five other young British girls on vacation in Portugal, London's Metropolitan Police said Wednesday. Officers are investigating 12 potentially linked crimes at resorts near where the toddler disappeared in 2007.

The man, who witnesses describe as tanned with short, dark, unkempt hair, is suspected of breaking into 12 vacation homes where British families were staying in the Algarve between 2004 and 2010. The details of the incidents are absolutely skin-crawling ...

Police said that in four of the incidents, which occurred between 2004 and 2006, girls between 7 and 10 years of age were sexually assaulted in their beds. On one of these occasions, he assaulted two girls in the same villa, police said.

While authorities acknowledged in a statement that the McCann disappearance and these other horrifying incidents are "not identical, there are many similar aspects to each of the incidents in that in most cases there were no signs of forced entry to the property, nothing was taken, and the intruder appeared in the early hours of the morning," between 2 and 5 a.m.

This isn't the first time break-ins have been seen as leads to what happened to McCann, either. Detectives said a while back that they were investigating a spike in break-ins in the area in the weeks before Madeleine disappeared, two of them in the same block where her family was staying.

But hopefully, new information that is emerging -- as horrific as it sounds -- could prove to be a promising lead. Hopefully digging deeper here could help authorities get closer to finding out what happened to Madeleine ... and/or who is behind these 12 vile assaults.

What do you think -- could there be a connection here?
