2 Killed & 23 Injured After Driver Plows Into Crowd at Major Music Festival

In horrifying news, two young people are dead and 23 more have been injured after a suspected intoxicated driver plowed into a crowd of music fans outside of a club participating in the hugely popular South by Southwest festival in Austin last night. South by Southwest, known as SXSW, is one of the biggest annual music, film, and tech events in the country, where tens of thousands of people get together to network and discover the latest and greatest trends. What should have been a fantastic evening in which positive memories were created turned into a nightmare for clubgoers. Some witnessed the death of a man and a woman who were on a motorized scooter at the time, and at least 10 people -- 5 of whom were in critical condition -- were transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

The car was reportedly speeding the wrong way down a one-way street that was teeming with people waiting outside of the music club. Prior to the incident, police reportedly tried to stop the man driving the car because they suspected he was intoxicated. However, the driver refused to stop and instead sped up and broke through a barricade before pummeling into the crowd, according to police.

Cops weren't chasing the man but were following him at the time. Police say they hit the driver with an electric stun gun and he was taken straight into custody. He's being charged with two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, according to authorities.

What a scary and unexpected tragedy to have occur at what is usually a fun, peaceful event. Assuming the man was intoxicated, I can't believe anyone still thinks it is okay to have a drink and get behind the wheel after hearing SO MANY horrifying accounts of what could go wrong. In one second, this driver ruined the lives of so many people. The families of these two victims will never be the same, and those who witnessed this horror unfold on the street are also suffering today. Our hearts go out to the families of the man and woman killed.

Have you ever been involved in a serious car accident?
