Family's Brawl Over Christmas Tree Gives New Meaning to Deck the Halls

treeThis family better not expect anything other than coal this Christmas. There are many things people argue about during the holidays: who cooks, who visits, what kind of gifts to give. But this may be a first. Three relatives in South Carolina got into a brawl for the most ridiculous reason imaginable: the Christmas tree.

Police were called to the house to break up a fight that started after one woman became outraged that the others had started decorating the tree. Apparently, she wanted to wait until a fourth relative arrived from work before whipping out the tinsel. Huh? Really? It's as if the Grinch stole their common sense.

The scuffle started around 10:30 p.m. and involved women aged 76, 61, and 24. And this wasn't just a few ornaments thrown against the wall. This was a pushing, pulling, curse-the-day-you-were-born kind of fight. It was still going on two hours later when a male relative arrived. He tried to defuse the situation but instead got sucked into the fracas.

“During the course of the verbal argument, all four family members admitted to pushing each other and getting in (each other's) faces,” police said. Once everyone calmed down, they decided not to press charges and began apologizing to each other. Even still, this whole situation is beyond ridiculous.

Talk about totally forgetting what the season is all about. So much has been lost in the commercialization of Christmas. It's not just about presents and decorating. What about the overarching message. Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. It's about peace, joy, togetherness. They should be ashamed of themselves.

What kinds of things do you find yourself arguing about during the holidays?
