Man Wanted for Child Abduction Turns Out to Be Confused Not Criminal

little girl's bikeSometimes it feels like the world is falling down around our ears. Every time you turn around, something bad is happening. But maybe it's not as bad as you think it is? Take the "attempted abduction" of a 7-year-old girl from her school in Florida the other day. Sounds AWFUL, doesn't it? Well, not exactly. Turns out it was just a confused grandpa trying to take home the wrong kid.

According to cops, the Florida grandfather showed up at his granddaughter's school the other day, planning to pick her up and take her home. Unfortunately, the girl he approached and instructed to put her bike in his truck wasn't a member of his family!

The scared 7-year-old took off and did the right thing: she told an adult someone had tried to abduct her from school. You can guess what happened next. Police sketches were made and distributed. The neighborhood went on alert. And it all seemed like the world was ending ... until Grandpa's family spotted his likeness on TV and called to explain that he's a wee bit addled.

A lot of fuss and nonsense for nothing?

Well, not exactly. The kid did the right thing here. The community responded the way they should.

And yet, we find out in the end that this was just an innocent mistake. Grandpa wasn't a pedophile; he was just a confused old man who probably should never have been given the job of picking up his granddaughter in the first place. Cops aren't even charging him because they agree it's just a mix-up.

And that's a good thing, right?

If nothing else, it's a reminder that innocent mistakes are made in this world. Accidents happen. Instead of getting bogged down in the awful, sometimes we need to step back and remember that. Not everything is a sign of the impending apocalypse!

Do you find yourself thinking the world is going to hell in a handbasket? How do you snap yourself out of it?
